Frequently Asked Questions

  • Ashford Speech and Advocacy is a private pay practice only and does not bill insurance directly. All services, including speech-language evaluations, therapy, AAC consultations, and IEP advocacy, are paid out of pocket by the family or through the San Diego Regional Center.

  • Once your child is a client of the regional center early start program, for ages 0-3 years, you can request to work with Ashford Speech and Advocacy P.C. specifically by telling your coordinator and using our vendor ID number: PY 3726

  • Payment is due at the time of service. Accepted payment methods include cash, check, and credit card through the Simple Practice Patient Portal. You may also use HSA/FSA cards in the portal. FMS payments through SDRC’s Self-Determination Program are accepted for AAC Coaching and Advocacy.

  • YOU as a parent get to decide the therapist that is best suited for your child's needs rather than an insurance company telling you who to see. Flexible scheduling and availability. No referral from a doctor is needed which means therapy can start right away. No limit on the number of sessions approved. The cost of services through insurance before you meet your deductible can often be more than my hourly rate.

  • In-home speech therapy sessions and AAC consultations are $150 per hour within 15 miles of 170 Eucalyptus Avenue in Vista, CA. One hour of therapy includes direct treatment time and documentation.


  • No. As of 08/17/2025, Ashford Speech and Advocacy no longer provides Superbills for any services.

  • A Good Faith Estimate (GFE) is an estimate of expected charges for speech language services. You can request a GFE at any time, or you will receive one after your first private-pay therapy appointment; it will list the anticipated annual cost. This is not available for advocacy or consultative services.

  • Yes, with approval from the Regional Center and your FMS, IEP Consultation and Advocacy Services, as well as the AAC caregiver package can be covered with SDP funds.

    Please remember, IEP consultation and advocacy services are never covered by insurance and are not eligible for HSA/FSA payment. All Advocacy clients are required to keep a credit card on file as of 08/17/2025.
